Bruno Giacosa, Nebbiolo d'Alba 2018Regular price $37.00 Save $-37.00
Of the great Piedmont producers, Bruno Giacosa is among the elite, if not the best. With vineyards in both Barbaresco and Barolo, he has had his hands in two distinct appellations devoted to Nebbiolo. As with many brilliant minds, the brilliance is contained within the mind of the genius; this could not be more true for Bruno. His career lasted from 1968 until his untimely death in 2018. He created an infinite number of famous wines during this time. For a region dominated by a lengthy history of male winemakers, the Giacosa legend continues with the pleasant turn of his daughter, Bruna, taking over the domain. These are very much allocated wines, representing some of the last vintages that he would have had his hands on before he passed.
This style of Nebbiolo is the somewhat friendlier version of Barolo. The vines are 23-30 years old from various villages around Alba. The fermentation takes place in steel while the ageing takes place for 14 months in French oak barrels. This is a Nebbiolo that can be consumed immediately or aged for a couple more years.
