Bruno Giacosa, Dolcetto d'Alba 2019Regular price $27.00 Save $-27.00
Of the great Piedmont producers, Bruno Giacosa is among the elite, if not the best. With vineyards in both Barbaresco and Barolo, he has had his hands in two distinct appellations devoted to Nebbiolo. As with many brilliant minds, the brilliance is contained within the mind of the genius; this could not be more true for Bruno. His career lasted from 1968 until his untimely death in 2018. He created an infinite number of famous wines during this time. For a region dominated by a lengthy history of male winemakers, the Giacosa legend continues with the pleasant turn of his daughter, Bruna, taking over the domain. These are very much allocated wines, representing some of the last vintages that he would have had his hands on before he passed.
Dolcetto is known as “the little sweet one” in Piedmont, though not because the wine it makes is sweet, but because the grape is a more approachable, tamer alternative to its Nebbiolo and Barbera counterparts. It doesn’t need aging and is drinkable soon after release. The fruit comes from select sites in Neive, Alba, and a couple other nearby villages. The Dolcetto both ferments and ages in stainless steel for a juicy and fresh wine that over delivers as a food pairing.
