Variety: Mourvedre (also known as Mataro or Monastrell)
The family behind Alta Alella has spent their entire life dedicated to wine; that would be husband and wife duo Josef and Cristina. They’ve always been surrounded by vineyards and bottles; so it is only natural! There is a complete commitment to nature, yet desire to keep with trends. Though the winery is young, the family continually push themselves to learn new things with each vintage. The wines are very low intervention with no added sulfites; little is done to the wines after the grapes have been pressed.
“Puput” is named for this unique bird that flies through vineyards and orchards. The Monastrell grape (locally known as Mataró) is left to over ripen on the vine, but harvested before the grapes begin to raisin. The lengthy maceration process and ageing is all done in one go as the wine spends six months in stainless steel. It is bottled after a light pressing. This is a wine radiating with candied plums, fig, and orange peel with tanginess and depth. It would be a wonderful match for fruit-based desserts, cheeses, or even dark chocolate.
