Ermitage du Pic Saint Loup, Guilhem Gaucelm 2015Regular price $60.00 Save $-60.00
Variety: Syrah and Grenache
The South of France is a fantastic place yet following the coastline from west to east the country changes pretty dramatically. Pic Saint Loup is located north of Montpellier and on a few miles from the Mediterranean Sea. Wines being made of mostly Syrah are a bit rare in this part of France as Grenache loves the warmth of the south. Syrah traditionally takes the backseat, that is not the case here. These incredible wines date back to the middle age and have been a personal favorite for years. They are wild just as the countrymen that make them. The three Ravaille brothers make the wines with low intervention and show an incredible sense of place. These three brothers have been making wines with a personality that truly taste like the place they are made.
Pic Saint Loup is a village in the northern part of the Languedoc situated between the Mediteranean Sea and the Cevennes mountains, a microclimate of coastal winds and mountain air with an intense mixture of different soils. “Guilhem Gaucelm” ages in large foudre and barriques for 36 months, a wine meant for rich cuisine.

Winemaker Didier Barral is the thirteenth generation of the Barral family to grow grapes in the Faugères appellation of the Languedoc. His ancestors mostly grew grapes and made wine for family consumption. In 1993, Didier decided to implement estate bottling and commercialize the wines on a larger scale, and shortly thereafter decided to institute biodynamic practices. In France, he is widely regarded as one of the most important leaders in the biodynamic movement. “Valinière” is the domaine’s top cuvée.
