Malescot Saint-Exupery, Margaux Grand Cru Classe 2012
Regular price $113.00 Save $-113.00Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc
Chateau Malescot does have a history to boast having been around since the early 17th century. It is most noted for its previous owners’ ties to nobility, notably King Louis XIV. It is also ranked as a Third Growth Bordeaux. At some point, the labels of the bottles were changed, incorporating a new line of type that still remains on the bottles. The phrase “Semper Ad Altum,” which translates to “always striving higher” is seen on the banner flagged by two lions. The lions are synonymous with the left bank of Bordeaux, reiterating the power and nobility of the wines found there. Today, the Chateau Malescot ship is run by Jean Luc Zuger who is making quite the name for himself in the realm of modern Bordeaux.
The various soil types in these 35-year-old vines are iron, clay, and gravel making this wine a true stunner. While the vinification and ageing of the wine does vary vintage depending, Malescot typically will be fermented in concrete and stainless steel tanks. The wine finishes its ageing process in mostly new oak, anywhere from 80-100%. We recommend this bottle to be drunk anytime after 2024, ideally.

Ca'La Bionda, Recioto della Valpolicella Classico Vigneti Le Tordare 2012
Regular price $55.00 Save $-55.00Variety: Corvina, Rondinella, Corvinone
bottle size: 500ml
Ca’La Bionda is located in the historic “classic” zone of the Valpolicella region. Founded in 1902, the family’s focus has always been on the grapes and the vineyard work. They presently cultivate 25 hectares. Alessandro Castellani is the current, fourth-generation winemaker. His wines are held in six-foot-tall oak casks until ready to drink. Certain wines are aged longer than others. But at every step of the way, attention is given to tradition, as opposed to modern, quick winemaking. Alessandro’s wines rarely receive much mainstream press, which is fine by him. This wine is more than capable of selling itself.
This wine undergoes a labor-intensive process that is worth the effort. After the harvest of these grapes at the end of September, the grapes used are left to dry until March or April on the traditional cane mats known as "arelle." The results are grapes with very high residual sugar. Then the juice ferments in stainless steel; thereafter it will move on to age for 24 months in smaller barrels. Even after bottling in the 500ml bottles, the wine ages further in bottle for four months. An opulent rich wine deserves an equal pairing; this will accentuate blue cheese, butter cakes, or dark chocolate very nicely.

Thierry Allemand, Cornas Chaillot 2012
Regular price $300.00 Save $-300.00Variety: Syrah
Thierry Allemand is a winemaker of cult status, due mostly to his beautiful Syrahs of the Northern Rhone region of Cornas. Thierry is also a man of humble, monastic feats. Little by little, he was learning the secrets of the trade under the wing of Robert Michel, who taught him terraced farming and non interventionist winemaking. Thierry started acquiring parcels, many of which were abandoned and falling into disrepair. He began replanting these vineyards and reinforced the terraces all by hand. It took him fifteen years before he could dedicate himself completely; meanwhile, he kept bread on the table as an electrician. He was a legend before he’d even committed to the wines fully. Thierry is committed to minimal use of sulphur, sometimes not even using it at all. He makes just two wines: “Reynard” is made of 34-90 year-old vines from the Reynard vineyard; “Les Chaillots” uses 5-40 year-old vines from Les Chaillots vineyard just across the valley.
